The only extenuating circumstance is that you probably slowed-down for the crossing.

Yeah, we were just creepin' over the tracks but it was still quite a jolt. Instant stop... the rail didn't have any give at all. (I'd always considered that old hardtail an irresistable force... that is, until it met an immovable object...)

Luckily all that was hurt was my pride. but it sure put the dampers on any plans I might have had for later that evening...:)

Hurt! :( Being a true chopper, mine had no kickstand to trip me up, but I've ridden bikes with ones that its mounting tab could spin you like a top if you leaned over in a corner too much. Spring loaded pegs should be on every bike and touch down first.

Oh yeah! One of the best party bands ever! Paul's bass solo on 'Another Man's Woman' was the best I've heard on vinyl and at another level when live.

I bought a pair of the original 411's some time ago. Like 7 years.
They were the originals from the Barcelona era.
Inverted cloth surrounds. One was ok, the other was dead cause the cone had sunk.

I measured the T/S parameters on the good one and they matched the Altec published specs. Exactly!

I sent both to GPA for a rebuild.

When they came back I measured again. First thing I had to do was re-bend the cone leads because they hit the frame at full excursion. GPA dicked this up. Sorry, fact.

Mine were the first recones GPA had done on these. Bill told me this.

These did NOT measure like orig 411's. They measured more like 416's.

I made 8 cubic foot ducted port cabs for them as subs and they worked perfect.

I still have them and they were a perfect match to the 904-8A.

Altec made several variations of the 411's that they never talked about.

Inverted cloth surrounds...(these aren't mystic, I had a pair), Extroverted cloth surrounds followed by Extroverted foam surrounds.

I have a pair of 9846 speaks that I can rebuild. I have all the parts. But it seems that I ought to just cut them up and burn them cause there is no consensus on the woofs.

But the consensus here is that 411's suck no matter what, and I don't think you know the varaitions.

I know Shinola when I see it....

Hey Ron, I have been concerned about your sunken cone stories in the past and the many other
stories since about woofers coming back different. Your not alone.
The reconing process seems to relate more to reupholstering a chair than producing a precision
electrical device. I hope I never have to send a driver out.
